SUMMARY:Solidarity Means All of Us: Why Anti-Racism Is Union Work
DESCRIPTION:The labour movement was built on a simple promise: an injury to one is an injury to all. But racism in our workplaces\, and sometimes in our own union spaces\, means that promise doesn’t land the same way for every member. Racialized workers are often overrepresented in precarious work\, underrepresented in leadership\, and too often left to speak up about racism on their own. \nIn this lunch and learn\, Laurabel Mba\, Founder and Lead Consultant of Laurabel Mba Consulting\, unpacks why anti-racism isn’t a side issue for unions. It’s core to the work of fairness\, safety\, and collective strength. We’ll look at how racism shows up in everyday member experiences\, grievances\, bargaining\, and who gets to lead\, and talk about what it actually looks like to be anti-racist in union spaces\, from the local meeting to the bargaining table. \nYou’ll walk away with practical ways to recognize racism when it shows up\, respond when members raise concerns\, make union spaces more welcoming and representative\, and turn solidarity from a slogan into a practice. \nRegister Here
