This is a significant achievement for both sides, albeit the agreement is subject to the approval of government, specifically the Department of Human Resources and Employment. Both NAPE President Carol Furlong and CEC Board Chairperson Bryson Webb say they are optimistic government will come on board.
“I am pleased NAPE was able to make progress on the bargaining priorities of our members, “said Furlong.
The CEC values its employees’ contributions to the supported employment program and their commitment to the individuals they support,” said Webb.
The Union President stated, “This is a reasonable and acceptable agreement which we are prepared to recommend to our members, the 28 employment support workers, who assist the Corporations’ clients.”
Board Chairperson Webb stated, “We value our employees and we’re very pleased to have reached a mutually acceptable agreement for those covered by the proposed contract. This agreement will provide the employment support workers with security and stability they need to continue moving forward to improving the lives of the individuals we serve.”
Details of the new contract, which covers wages and benefits, will be released once a formal agreement is in place. Both parties are anticipating a positive response from government within the next week
