2024 NAPE Election Update – Close of Nominations
At the close of nominations, Chief Returning Officer (CRO) Mary Shortall and the NAPE Election Committee are announcing the following:
Nominations for the positions of President and Secretary-Treasurer closed on March 4 at 4:30 pm.
Jerry Earle was acclaimed as the President of the union, returning for his fourth, three-year term in that role. Jerry was first elected President in 2015.
Trevor King was acclaimed as the Secretary-Treasurer of the union, returning for his second, three-year term in that role. Trevor was first elected as Secretary-Treasurer in 2019 in a by-election.
The CRO and Committee offer congrats and best wishes to Jerry and Trevor in their continued roles as President and Secretary-Treasurer respectively.

In accordance with NAPE’s Constitution, nominations are invited for the positions of President and Secretary/Treasurer of NAPE.

Nominees can share the Nomination Form link above with each potential nominator.

Each nominator must submit a form at the link above. At least fifty (50) members in good standing (must have a registration card on file at NAPE Office) must submit nomination forms for their nominee of choice.

The deadline for submission of Nomination Forms is 4:30 p.m. (NT) on March 4, 2024.

This form must be completed by those putting themselves forward for office and submitted to Gail at gquinlan@nape.ca by 4:30 p.m. (NT) on March 4, 2024.

NOMINATION CRITERIA

Candidates running for the elected office of Secretary/Treasurer must meet the following minimal nomination criteria:

  • be a member of NAPE in good standing; must have a registration card on file at NAPE Office, and one who is eligible to run for the position under NAPE=s Constitution;
  • not accept a nomination for any other position being contested under a full membership vote process; and
  • have a total of not less than 50 NAPE members in good standing – must have a registration card on file at NAPE Office – fill out and submit an official nomination form.
  • pay a refundable nomination fee of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150) prior to close of nominationCheques will be cashed.
  • Candidate’s two-page pamphlet must be submitted by March 11 in PDF format.  It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the information is accurate and complete.
  • Candidates may submit a second two page PDF pamphlet by March 20

ACCLAMATION

If not more than one nomination is received for the position, the Chief Returning Officer shall, at the close of nominations, declare the person duly elected by acclamation.

TIMELINES FOR THE 2024 ELECTION 

PRE-VOTE PERIOD
  • Election Call to be made by 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Monday, February 26, 2024
  • Last day for Nominations is Monday, March 4, 2024
  • Deadline to submit nomination papers is 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Monday, March 4, 2024
  • The voters’ list must be completed and provided to the Elections Committee by 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Monday, March 4, 2024. The voters’ list may be modified up to 12:00 noon (NT) – Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
  • Candidates must submit a print ready two-sided single page, black and white pamphlet in PDF format to the Elections Committee for approval by 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Monday, March 11, 2024.
  • Candidates may submit a second print ready two-sided single page, black and white pamphlet in PDF format to the Elections Committee for approval by 4:30 p.m. (NT) -Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
VOTING PROCESS
  • Members with no email addresses to be provided Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) via Canada Post by 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Friday, March 15, 2024
  • Members to be provided Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) via email by 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
  • Electronic Voting commences at 8:00 a.m. (NT) – Thursday, March 21, 2024.
  • Last day to receive Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) is 4:30 p.m. (NT) Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
  • Voting ceases at 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Thursday, March 28, 2024.
  • Voting results released at 5:00 p.m. (NT) – Thursday, March 28, 2024.
  • Last day for candidate(s) to request a recount – Friday, April 5, 2024.
  • Recount, if requested, must be completed by 4:30 p.m. (NT) – Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
  • Last date for candidates to provide to the Chief Returning Officer disclosure of campaign contributions and expenditures is Friday, April 12, 2024.
