Counselling Options
DoorWays is a single session, walk-in counselling service:
If further counselling is required, staff will work with you to provide access to additional services and supports.
Doorways is not an emergency service. In a medical emergency, call 911. In the case of a mental health or addictions crisis call 811, or proceed to the nearest emergency department.
To find Doorways in your area, call 811 and a Healthline nurse will provide you with a contact number.
Community Based Counselling Services
Counsellors are available to support individuals who have mental health or substance use concerns as well as family and friends who are affected.
Counsellors aim to match treatment intensity to each individuals’ unique journey of mental wellness and recovery.
Recovery Centre
The Recovery Centre in St. John’s is open to anyone in the province who is 16+ and needs help while withdrawing from alcohol, drugs and/or gambling.
St. John’s Status of Women Counselling
Right Here, Right Now counselling is a program that provides FREE single-session therapy to women and gender-diverse people (18 and over) in the St. John’s area.

CHANNAL’s trained peer supporters are non-judgemental and have firsthand knowledge; “We understand because we’ve been there”. The Warm Line is available between 11:00 am and 11:00 pm, 7 days a week.

The Power Over Pain Portal is a set of curated tools and resources designed to improve access to chronic pain care for youth and adults who live with chronic pain, family members, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
Individuals can start anywhere and explore what they think will be most helpful to them. It’s private and confidential, free to use, and accessible 24/7.
Strongest Families
Strongest Families Institute (SFI) is a not-for-profit agency designed to support children and youth from 3-17 years of age:
- This program may be for you if you have concerns about your child’s behaviour difficulties, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, bullying or bedwetting.
- Support is provided to families over the phone and Internet in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
- Families can be referred by a teacher, guidance counselor, physician, nurse, social worker, etc
MindWell

Mental Health and Addictions
The Mental Health and Addictions Division is responsible for providing leadership in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of provincial policies and programs related to mental health and addiction in Newfoundland and Labrador. The division works in partnership with the four regional health authorities (RHAs),community groups, the provincial Mental Health and Addiction Advisory Council and Recovery Council, family members and individuals with lived experience, as well as other stakeholders in Newfoundland and Labrador.
