NAPE President Carol Furlong said the union continues to be bewildered by government’s position. “We simply don’t know why they have taken such a stand. We were hopeful that the intervention of a conciliator would resolve the dispute but it was apparent that the conciliator couldn’t determine the rationale either, said Furlong. The workers who provide support services to persons with disabilities are in their 18th week on strike. This group have asked for nothing more than everyone else has received in bargaining. It is unbelievable that government has taken such a heavy handed approach with a group earning little more than minimum wage whose jobs ensure inclusiveness in the workplace for persons with disabilities, said Furlong.”
