WORKER’S COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & ACCOMMODATIONS OFFICER
St. John’s, NL
DUTIES
The successful applicant’s primary responsibilities will be to advocate for all members of NAPE on matters relating to the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act, and the Workplace NL Review Division Regulations. Will prepare arguments, interview workers, review files, interview professional and medical specialists in preparation for appeals. Advocates on behalf of NAPE members at both internal and external appeal processes. Consults with Intake Adjudicators, Case Managers, Internal Review Specialist. Will liaison with various Employers/Locals in the development of Early and Safe Return to Work programs. Will ensure the implementation of plans for injured workers within the Employer=s Duty to Accommodate. Will be a resource person for Locals for issues relating to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. Will assist with negotiations when required.
Will involve travel within the Province.
QUALIFICATIONS
University graduation or post-secondary education in labour relations or related field or the equivalent experience and training. Must have considerable knowledge of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act and the Workplace Review Division Regulations. Considerable experience in addressing concerns of injured workers and workplace accommodations. Experience in the leading of and negotiating of Collective Agreement, presenting arbitrations, Workers’ Compensation appeals, Employment Insurance appeals, Canada Pension appeals, and Classification appeals. Must have considerable knowledge of NAPE.
Extensive knowledge of labour legislation relating to the position, including Government Acts and Regulations; experience in collective bargaining including the ability to draft and interpret contract language, write reports, draft and present briefs and/or position papers on a variety of topics related to this position. Both practical and effective workplace knowledge in the interpretation and application of collective agreements. Strong and effective communication skills in dealing with the membership, employers and the general public. A dedicated commitment to the Union beliefs and principles.
Must hold a valid driver’s license.

MEMBERSHIP SERVICING OFFICER
St. John’s
(1 Temporary Full-Time)
DUTIES
The successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to: negotiation of assigned Collective Agreements under the direction of the Labour Relations Specialist; processing grievances; assisting with the preparation of arbitration and various appeals; servicing of membership is a critical component including participating in membership education, attending Local meetings, serving on committees; required to provide advice and guidance to Local Officers, Shop Stewards and members on a variety of issues including contract and policy interpretation.
Work is performed under the guidance of the Labour Relations Specialist, often involves long hours on a regular basis. Extensive travel may be involved within assigned workload or within the entire Province. Other duties as required by the President.
Will involve significant travel.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant will have post-secondary education at the University or College level in labour relations, law or related field; demonstrated equivalent experience and training will be considered; experience in the collective bargaining process is a definite asset; considerable experience in membership servicing including handling of grievances, conflict resolution, investigations, collective agreement interpretation including ability to draft and present collective agreement language. A good knowledge of arbitration, dispute resolutions processes, and various appeals is an asset. Ability to assist with research and preparation of briefs and position papers; strong and effective communication skills; a good understanding of NAPE and committed to Union beliefs and principles. Must have a valid driver=s license.
