We must stand together against the destructive impact that racism has on the lives of Black, Indigenous, and racialized people.

The labour movement has been at the forefront of the fight against racism and discrimination for decades. Our movement has always been about bringing equality, fairness, respect not only to our workplaces but to our communities and society as a whole.

We believe that an injury to one is an injury to all.

We must listen to, learn from, and support our black, racialized, marginalized, and indigenous members. But it is not enough to be a sympathetic ear – we must all speak out against racism whenever and wherever we see or hear it.

We must all work together in our workplaces, in our homes, in our schools, and in our communities to eliminate racism.

Today, and every day, we must commit to challenging racism and all forms of discrimination – everyone is born equal in dignity and rights. It is our duty to challenge the systemic racism that exists in our society and it’s institutions.

We must beat back racism, hate, discrimination, and inequality with our solidarity.

As Thandi O’Grady, a Journalism student at the College of the North Atlantic, says in the piece from the local Independent below:

“…racism is an enemy we must all conquer.”
