According to NAPE President Carol Furlong, “The strike is in its eighth month and the parties have to find a resolution. NAPE is prepared to put forward a new proposal to the government negotiators.” Furlong stated, “If government is equally concerned about the welfare of the workers and the clients, and the fact that this group has been on one of the longest strikes in our history, they will be willing to move from their position as well. We are very concerned with the impact this strike is having on the clients and their ability to be active members in our society. This strike has been and continues to be about the value of work of employees providing an essential service to the citizens of the province. If government negotiators are willing to return to the bargaining table and bargain in good faith with the employee representatives, this unfortunate strike can end,” said Furlong.
