NAPE Election Results Announced

ST. JOHN’S, NL – Reg Anstey, Chief Returning Officer of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees’ (NAPE) Election Committee, has announced the results for the 2015 election of the Union’s President and Secretary-Treasurer.

The results are as follows:

Jerry Earle has been elected President.

Bert Blundon has been re-elected Secretary-Treasurer.

Voting took place via mail-in ballot from February 27 to March 27 of this year.

IMPORTANT BALLOT INFORMATION

Ballots were sent in the mail to all NAPE members in good standing on February 27, 2015.

Ballots must be received by NAPE’s Elections Committee no later than 5 p.m. on March 27, 2015. 

Members who do not receive a ballot should contact the Elections Committee at NAPE office in St. John’s at (709) 754-0700 or 1-800-563-4442.

Only mail-in ballots will be accepted.

NAPE Announces Candidates for Election of  President and Secretary-Treasurer

ST. JOHN’S, NL – Nominations for the position of President and Secretary-Treasurer for the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) closed on Thursday, February 12 at 5 p.m.

The following individuals have declared their candidacy for the position of President:

Jerry Earle

Carol Anne Furlong

The following individuals have declared their candidacy for the position of Secretary-Treasurer:

Bert Blundon

Raymond Clarke

All NAPE members in good standing will be mailed a ballot no later than February 27, 2015. Ballots must be received by NAPE’s Elections Committee no later than 5 p.m. on March 27, 2015.  Members who do not receive a ballot should contact the Elections Committee at NAPE office in St. John’s at (709) 754-0700 or 1-800-563-4442. Only mail-in ballots will be accepted.

NAPE’s Elections Committee consists of three rank and file members elected at NAPE’s 2013 Biennial Convention: Henrietta Hillier, Mary Myles, and Glenda Smith. Reg Anstey is the Chief Returning Officer and Chair of the Committee.

In accordance with NAPE’s Constitution, nominations are invited for the following positions:

President of NAPE
Secretary/Treasurer of NAPE

Provided herein is a summary of the rules and procedures for the election.

Nomination forms are available online below or by request to NAPE office at 1-800-563-4442 or 754-0700 and must be signed by fifty (50) members in good standing.

Nomination forms must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 12, 2015, to the following address:

2015 ELECTION OF PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY/TREASURER NOMINATION CRITERIA

Candidates running for the elected offices of President and Secretary/Treasurer must meet the following minimal nomination criteria:
‒ be a member of NAPE in good standing; must have a signed registration card on file at NAPE Office;
‒ not accept a nomination for any other position being contested under a full membership vote process; and
‒ have his/her nomination signed by 50 NAPE members in good standing (name must be printed and signed) listing their Local number.
‒ pay a nomination fee of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150) on February 12. Cheques will be cashed.
‒ Candidate’s two-sided pamphlet must be in on February 19 and print ready (PDF) format on a disk. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the information is accurate and complete.

ACCLAMATION

If not more than one nomination is received for any of the two positions, the Chief Returning Officer shall, at the close of nominations, declare the person duly elected by acclamation.

TIME FRAMES FOR THE 2015 ELECTION OF NAPE’S PRESIDENT & SECRETARY-TREASURER

PRE-VOTE PERIOD

Election Call to be sent out by January 29, 2015.
Last day for Nominations is February 12, 2015 – 5:00 p.m.
Last day to submit original nomination papers is February 12, 2015 – 5:00 p.m.
Last day to finalize the Voters’ List and provide a copy to the Elections Committee is February 12, 2015 – 5:00 p.m., however, Appendix “A” will be considered for ballots up to and including March 19, 2015 – 5:00 p.m..
Last day for candidates to submit their print ready two-sided, one-page, black and white pamphlet in PDF format on a disk to the Elections Committee for approval is February 19, 2015 – 5:00 p.m.

BALLOT

Last day to mail out ballots to the members is February 27, 2015.
Last day for the members to return their ballot is March 27, 2015 – 5:00 p.m..
Ballots in the mail picked up on the morning of March 30 will also be included.
Day for the count of the ballots is March 31, 2015.
Last date a candidate has to request a recount of the ballot is April 7, 2015 – 5:00 p.m.
Last day that the recount must be completed is April 10, 2015 – 5:00 p.m..
If there are no more ballots, then the last day a candidate has to disclose the source of his/her campaign contributions and campaign expenditure is April 14, 2015 – 5:00 p.m.
