Furlong stated, “we are pleased that we have reached a satisfactory collective agreement after a lengthy period of discussions and bargaining. In the case of salaries, employees will move from their current salary of $12.51 per hour to $15.19 per hour over the term of the collective agreement.”
The 51 employees work with clients who have varying disabilities as they are being integrated into the workforce. Employees provide a support and mentoring role with clients who work in a variety of workplaces, such as school lunch programs in school cafeterias, cleaning services with the College of the North Atlantic, private businesses, etc.
Furlong stated, “the services provided by employees are essential to ensure employees with disabilities can be integrated into the workforce and into society in general. On behalf of our members, we are pleased this agreement could be reached without any disruption in service to both the clients and businesses they serve.” The agreement expires June 30, 2013.
