April 19 to 25 is National Medical Laboratory Week.

NAPE is proud to unite and represent over 600 medical laboratory professionals across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Medical laboratory professionals provide an invaluable public service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. They are a highly specialized group who work in health care facilities throughout our province to protect the health and welfare of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

Medical laboratory professionals perform thousands of complicated medical tests and play a vital role in the diagnosis and prevention of disease. Working in numerous occupational classifications, many of these specialists have multiple professional credentials and are trained to provide a wide range of procedures.

The critical testing and analysis they perform is essential for doctors and others in the health care system in making a diagnosis and determining the right course of treatment for patients.

Despite the crucial role that medical laboratory professionals play, these health professionals are often unrecognized by the public as an essential part of the health care team.

This week is an opportunity to recognize the contribution and dedication of medical lab professionals to our health care system and to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. On behalf of our union I would like to thank Medical Professionals across our province for the invaluable service that they provide to the public; without their specialized skills, health care as we know it would not exist.

In Solidarity,
