According to NAPE President Carol Furlong, at this stage they have no choice but to conduct a strike vote. “Negotiations started in October and there has been very little, if any, progress”, said Furlong. These workers are asking to be given the same as all others but the employer’s position is concessions with no wage increase. “It is unbelievable”, said Furlong. This is the third group working with persons with disabilities who are being treated like second class citizens in comparison to everyone else. “We have exhausted all avenues including requesting and going through the process of conciliation. We now have no recourse left but to take a strike vote”, Furlong said.
