Update #: 1

Date: 11-5-26

We know this is an important time for our members in the public sector,  and we want everyone to be up to date on what is happening. Although collective bargaining is a slow and lengthy process, it is important you are all kept in the loop.

All 16 negotiating teams have met and have put together their initial proposals based on the resolutions your elected representatives voted on during Component Convention.

Some groups have had their initial meeting with the employer and exchanged proposals, a stage that’s sometimes referred to as ‘the first pass.’ NAPE is now setting dates with the employer for the remaining groups.

NAPE considers this to be the start of collective bargaining. These meetings set the tone for what to expect throughout the process. Since there are 16 collective agreements in this round of negotiations, as you can imagine, the process will be long. We will, however, update you once all these initial exchanges are complete.

We will continue to update members, and our website will be the best place to check for the latest information. Once bargaining starts in earnest, the site will have the most accurate, real-time updates, so please make sure you bookmark our dedicated page to get the latest news. You can simply click on your Component and get the information.

We are committed to keeping you informed. Even if the news is that there were no meetings during a particular week, we will let you know.

We also have a video explaining the public sector collective bargaining process on this page, so please take the time to watch it.

This will be a busy and, at times, challenging process. Bargaining is never easy, but our strength comes from standing together. When we remain united and focused on our shared goals, we are at our strongest.

Public sector bargaining may take place at the table, but its strength comes from the solidarity of our membership. We will come through this round united and stronger as a union, proud of what we have achieved together for our members and for our province.
