NAPE Activists to Gather on Province’s West Coast for Local Officer Training Seminar

ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) will be hosting a Local Officer Training Seminar at the Marble Mountain Resort in Steady Brook this weekend (Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29). Over 100 activists, who are NAPE members from the province’s west coast, great northern peninsula, and Labrador, will be attending this weekend’s seminar.

“Local activists are the grass roots of the union movement and are a vital part of ensuring the effectiveness of a union,” said NAPE President Carol Furlong. “The education of local activists is essential to an effective union and our goal this weekend is to ensure that local officers have the tools and skills they need to be effective stewards in their workplaces.”

The Local Officer Training Seminar will feature workshops and guest speakers that will give local activists an opportunity to be better prepared to take an active role and do the work necessary on behalf of their members, responding to members needs, and working with employers to try and develop positive working relationships.

Ms. Furlong as well as NAPE Secretary-Treasurer Bert Blundon will be in attendance and addressing members on Friday evening.

NAPE represents over 25,000 public and private sector workers across Newfoundland and Labrador.
