Eighteen (18) scholarships awarded each year:

Two (2) Max Dyke Scholarships – awarded based on a 1,500 word research paper. (Valued at $1,000 each)

Criteria for Eligibility:

i. Must graduate.

ii. Must attend a Post-Secondary Institute.

iii. Parent or legal guardian or Applicant must be a NAPE member in good standing.

Must write a 1,500 word research paper on the following: The federal government is implementing an austerity program, slashing public services and social programs, all under the guise of a deficit budget. At the same time the richest of the rich and the biggest corporations enjoy record tax cuts to the tune of billions of dollars. Where is the tax fairness?

One (1) Emmanual Strickland Scholarship – awarded to applicant attaining highest academic achievement based on Provincial Government scholarship score. (Valued at $1,500)

Fifteen (15) Regional Scholarships – one per Region for a total of nine, plus six to be awarded at large to the next six applicants receiving the highest academic achievement, regardless of Region. All are based on Provincial Government scholarship score. (Valued at $500 each).

Selection to be made by the NAPE Education Committee, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.

Criteria for eligibility

Must graduate from senior high.
Must attend a Post-Secondary Institute in the year of graduation.
Parent or legal guardian must be a NAPE member in good standing.
Must write an essay on UNIONISM, in accordance with the topic on the application form for the Max Dyke Scholarship.

Region 8 Bonne Bay to St. Anthony

Region 9 Burin Peninsula (including Clarenville)

NUPGE SCHOLARSHIPS

NUPGE Scholarships are available to NAPE members. There are four in total and they are:

Tommy Douglas Scholarship $1,500 (awarded to the writer of the best 750-1000 word essay on: How Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a more just and equitable society.)

Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship $1,500 (awarded to the writer of the best 750-1000 word essay on: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities.)

Aboriginal Canadians Scholarship $1,500 (awarded to the writer of the best 750-1000 word essay on: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of Aboriginal Canadians.)

Visible Minorities Scholarship $1,500 (awarded to the writer of the best 750-1000 word essay on: The importance of quality public services in enhancing the quality of life of visible minorities.)
