May 7 to 13 is Corrections Week.
NAPE is proud to unite and represent over 300 Correctional Officers and staff across Newfoundland and Labrador.
These workers deal with an extremely challenging and stressful work environment – the threats and acts of violence, trauma, understaffing, increasingly prevalent and complex mental health issues, and the poor working conditions in a number of the correctional facilities across the province all add up and take their toll. Breaking down the stigma that exists around mental health issues, ensuring workers have access to support systems, pushing for improved workplace mental health legislation, and doing peer support training has been a focus for this group of workers in recent years.
Through it all, these workers continue to serve with excellence via their dedication, training, courage, and professionalism.
Thank you for what you do each and every day.
