MEMBERSHIP SERVICING OFFICER (Three positions)
St. John’s
(2 Permanent Full Time; 1 Temporary Full Time)
DUTIES
The successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to: negotiation of assigned Collective Agreements under the direction of the Labour Relations Specialist; processing grievances; assisting with the preparation of arbitration and various appeals; servicing of membership is a critical component including participating in membership education, attending Local meetings, serving on committees; required to provide advice and guidance to Local Officers, Shop Stewards and members on a variety of issues including contract and policy interpretation.
Work is performed under the guidance of the Labour Relations Specialist, often involves long hours on a regular basis. Extensive travel may be involved within assigned workload or within the entire province.
Other duties as required by the President.
Will involve significant travel within the province.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant will have post-secondary education at the University or College level in labour relations, law or related field; demonstrated equivalent experience and training will be considered; experience in the collective bargaining process is a definite asset; considerable experience in membership servicing including handling of grievances, conflict resolution, investigations, collective agreement interpretation including ability to draft and present collective agreement language. A good knowledge of arbitration, dispute resolutions processes, and various appeals is an asset. Ability to assist with research and preparation of briefs and position papers; strong and effective communication skills; a good understanding of NAPE and committed to Union beliefs and principles. Must have a valid driver’s license.
