NAPE Celebrates National Social Work Month

ST. JOHN’S, NL – March is National Social Work Month. The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) represents over 500 social workers in Newfoundland and Labrador. The theme of Social Work Month 2013 is, Social Workers Defending Social Programs for a Stronger Canada.

“Social workers, by the nature of the work they do, are often faced with stressful and emotionally draining situations, yet they rarely receive the recognition they deserve for the demanding work they perform,” said NAPE President Carol Furlong. “In spite of this, these professionals are extremely dedicated individuals who contribute to a better life for some of our province’s most vulnerable citizens.”

“This month is a special time to recognize the demanding and important work that social workers perform every day in communities across our province,” stated Furlong. “We ask that you join us in acknowledging the crucial role that social workers play and the vital service they provide to the people of our province.”
