ST. JOHN’S, NL – Home care workers at 24 agencies across the province, who are members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE), have voted in favour of ratifying their new collective agreements. The new collective agreements cover over 4000 home and youth care workers across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Overall, the home and youth care workers voted 89% in favour of acceptance. The agreements will expire in 2024.

The agreements are between home and youth care workers, represented by NAPE, and the following home care agencies: A Better Living, Bettercare, Comfort Home Care, Compassion Home Care, Exploits Home Care, Helping Hands, Horwood’s Home Care, Loving Hands, Maximum Home Support, Notre Dame Home Care, Provincial (Eastern), Quality Home Care, Rosemore Home Care, Serenity Home Care, Total Nursing Care, Provincial (Central), All Care Home Support, In-Home Health Care, The Best of Care, Tender Loving Care (TLC), Angel’s Touch, Caring Hands, Home Sweet Home, and South Coast Home Care.

The ratified agreements include monetary increases in wages as well as improvements in contract language.

Since NAPE is still at the bargaining table with Caregivers Inc.- Blue Sky / Caregivers / Momentum, specific details of the agreement will not be released at this time so as to not affect the remaining sets of negotiations.

“We are very pleased that home and youth care members voted in favour of these agreements. It was an extremely difficult round of negotiations,” said NAPE President Jerry Earle. “These workers provide a vital service to the people of this province and alleviate some of the strain on our healthcare system in the process.”

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the bargaining team who worked diligently over the past several months to make this result a reality,” said Earle.

The Union is hopeful that the ratified agreements will lead to a speedy resolution with the remaining sets of negotiations.
