According to Furlong, NAPE delivered a request to the Minister of Finance for binding arbitration two weeks ago. To date NAPE has not received a response. Furlong said “this simply isn’t good enough. Eight months into a strike and the Minister has failed to respond to a request that would settle this strike immediately. This strike has gone on too long. The impact on the employees and in particular the clients they serve has been devastating. All parties in this dispute have a responsibility to find a solution that will end this strike and the Minister and government share in that responsibility to find an immediate and acceptable solution. NAPE feels confident in its position and is prepared to have an independent arbitrator hear the matter and make a final ruling on all outstanding issues,” stated Furlong.
